I am a highly skilled Trusted Advisor with a professional background in accounting, tax and law. I counsel my clients through a remarkable team of professionals, whom I take a personal responsibility to train, coach, and mentor. These team members are supported through a strong network of professionals who also provide a high level of intelligent guidance.
I am a CPA, CA with a LL.M (Tax Law), TEP, and an MBA (accounting and finance). I have also completed the CPA In-Depth Tax course. I have been fortunate to work in large and medium sized accounting firms – and am now proud to be a partner at Shajani CPA. This firm allows me to bring forth ambition and ideas that will provide the utmost advantage to my clients.
My experiences have allowed me to gain the skills of an expert level professional tax planner and advocate for my clients, including providing services in corporate reorganizations, dispute resolutions, and organizational structures. I am also outstanding at analyzing financial statements and business processes. I have been involved in many areas of public accounting including audits, reviews and compilations for both public and private entities. The unique combination of accounting, law, tax and business allows me to provide a phenomenal advisory experience to my clients.
I gained experience in public company audits while articling with one of the big four. I then moved on to a mid-sized accounting firm and branched out to tax, reviews and other engagements. It is here that I found my passion in tax and accounting that I bring to work with me every day.
Taking this to the next level via an MBA from the University of Liverpool, specializing in Accounting and Finance as well as the coveted three year CPA In-Depth Tax Course – the combination of which has allowed me to provide tax & consulting services at an exceptionally preeminent level.
The LL.M at York University provided me exceptional skills in legal research and a deeper understanding of the policies, principles and the internal logic of tax laws in Canada and internationally. The program uncovers all aspects of tax law from the most basic rules underlying traditional personal tax planning principles to current developments in the sophisticated design of international tax treaties. This background allows me to confidently provide a robust plan that effectuates the strategic outcomes of my clients.
The TEP has advanced my knowledge in trust and estate practice.
I have a number of volunteer activities that include various boards in developing programing and delivering financial literacy courses across Canada.
Giving back to my community is also important to me. I’ve been a member of the taxation and finance committee of our local Chamber of Commerce where I’m able to provide insight and drafts at the grassroots level for the Chamber’s policies in this area. I’ve also taken on the role of a facilitator at the CA School of Business where I provided online instructor services to CA students.
My bio would not be complete without mentioning my wonderful wife Zahra, and two kids, Shaheena and Rahmaan. Each of them brings me joy and when I am not with them, or working, teaching, or studying, I enjoy playing a round of golf and traveling.
