World Partnership Walk
Why We Walk
In 1985, a group of women in Vancouver came together to raise funds to support the work of AKFC. All had come from Africa or Asia and wanted to give back to the communities they left behind. They persuaded 1,000 other Canadians to join them in a walk to fight global poverty and raised $55,000. That first walk grew into an annual event, held in 10 cities across Canada with the support of tens of thousands of volunteers, corporate sponsors, and participants. Forty years later, the World Partnership Walk has raised more than $145 million – making it the largest event in Canada in support of international development.

World Partnership Walk is a story of Canadians leading change. Our volunteers, fundraisers, donors, and sponsors have stepped forward year after year to make a meaningful and lasting impact globally. The $145+ million raised through the Walk to date has contributed directly to over 180 initiatives in 15 countries that have reduced poverty and improved the quality of life for millions in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Funds raised through the Walk have unlocked support from the Government of Canada and other partners, enabling our programs to reach more people, address shared Canadian priorities, draw on Canadian expertise, and share lessons and best practices for tackling global poverty.  Not only do we raise funds through the Walk, but we also raise awareness, build knowledge, and inspire Canadians to take action to fight global poverty.

We can’t wait to see what we will achieve together in the years to come!

Join Us June 1st in Calgary

The World Partnership Walk’s registration page invites Canadians to join the 2025 event by selecting their city from a list that includes Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, and others. For those in unlisted locations, a “Walk Anywhere” option is available, allowing participation from any location across the country. Participants can choose to register as individuals, join existing teams, or create new ones, uniting friends, family, or colleagues in the collective effort to combat global poverty. Organized by Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), the Walk supports initiatives aimed at empowering communities in Africa and Asia. The registration page also provides quick links to fundraising tools, leaderboards, and a mobile app to enhance the participant experience.
